Weekly COLLEcTION SelectIOn - my challenge! #5

CROWN LYNN
Colour Glaze crockery

This is going to be a bit of a nerdy blog, I'm afraid. And I won't be able to do it all in one post as I guess I'm a C L collector and I have got LOADS of it...

Crown Lynn is a New Zealand institution( Fab facebook page linked in there). Until the 80s it churned out terrific table ware and decor delights, and it has become extremely collectible in recent years.

When I began 'thrifting' Crown Lynn was EVERYWHERE. It still kind of is, but certain lines are very collectible and the price reflects..

But more about that in other collection posts..

This is COLOUR GLAZE

It had other names at different times too, as they made it for YEARS and YEARS.

The idea was that if a bit got broken you could just get some more from the factory..

I coveted this for a while and actively sought it...
(Dinner plates)

Embarrassingly, this is probably a third of my Colour Glaze dinner ware..

Normal sized bowl on the left, pasta bowl on the right.
Another thing about C L is their practicality..

That's a normal sized cup on the right, and on the left a 'MAN CUP' !! LOL
They are quite hard to find and I am lucky enough to have 3 duos..

MAN and LADY

That's a little dish on the left. I think it's called a PIN DISH somehow..
But they're pretty cute.  Bread and butter plate on right..

Check that link out.. it's my ultimate covet.. FIESTA is the range.. and it is nearly impossible to get a set like that!!! FIESTA

Five Friday Faves

SO here goes.. Still no collections posted up.. just don't have enough hours in the day/night, sadly!! Maybe this weekend??

Always stuff that makes me happy though.. and here are 5 of them!

This is for sale, on some website, somewhere in USA.
I want it!!
I dunno where this comes from. But I love it! Reminds me of  the decor when I was a kid.

How cool and clever is this??!!

A sign in a shoe repair shop.. so clever!

One of my mirrors.. and it was $2 from my favourite op-shop. (that just closed down.. sob sob..) I should've cleaned this up before I photo'd it, and it's not a great shot.. but so in love with it!!

Five Friday Faves

Well I think I'll change the name of this post to something else as Friday is often Saturday and maybe Sunday. (it's Sunday morning here.. but it might say Saturday at the top..)

Today my faves are mainly things from around my house.. just for a change.. I have a lot of faves  (doesn't everyone?) in my house, mostly thanks to OP SHOPS and Garage Sales over the years. And I remember where I got each thing too!

These are actually the lids off cake tins.
They have little labels on that say  'May Butcher'   which I have kept on..

Love this clock.

Letters. Bills. Misc.
LOVE this.

Marimekko at its best!
Large fabric panel that I bought
(already  on the frame - saved me a job!)
for 50c  a few years ago!

Just can't stop Op Shopping!

YES I am an op-shopaholic!

I can hardly pass a day without getting my fix! Usually it's just popping into one as I'm passing.. The more familiar I am with them, the easier it is to spot stuff that wasn't there before! Really!!

It lifts my spirits remarkably, even if I don't find anything to buy.

It's a form of escapism as well.

And fortunately my kids (especially Mr nearly 4, who I hang out with the most!) love it too!

LOVE this fabric.

FABRIC

I love this barkcloth craft box thing. Collapsible and practical.. Has pockets inside.

It even has handles for carting around.
This is the kind of book I grew up with.. occasionally attempting a project - but usually ending up disappointed that it didn't look as funky as the one in the picture!!

Five Friday Faves

I've been spending a lot of time trying to work out how to make my photos aligned.. ie the same size.. as I think it looks WAY cooler.. I have found some great info but despite all my best attempts I cannot do it... ho hum.

Mucking about trying to work out technical stuff like that is NOT one of my Friday faves.. unless I'd won at it of course!!

1. These biscuits.. aren't they cool??!

2. LEGO!
And it comes in so many colours and shapes and sizes these days..
it was just red, white, yellow, blue, black and white when I was a kid..
This tower was made by one of my kids.

3. My HANDBAG!!
I love the yellow-ness.

Somebody must have made this in the 70s..

4. THIS KITCHEN!! I want it!!!
I saw it on Curlypops' blog.. (from an Aussie Real Estate AD)

5. Brotherly Love.. even in the virtual world!!
(I took this photo over my son's shoulder as he sent a 'gift' and
message to his brother's Moshi Monster.

I hope you're all loving stuff this weekend...

Recent finds..

So I haven't posted for a few days.. Reason: I couldn't justify sitting down and blogging when my house was such a mess!! True story.. Story of my life! So I had a burst and now, at 12.14 a.m I feel I can be self-indulgent a bit!!

Still managed to fit in a bit of thrifting though.. of course!

Plate (Crown Lynn - a NZ pottery manufacturer which closed in the 80s) . Can't pass by a fab plate like this.

WE went for a family op-shop the other day - yes all 6 of us!! The kids lasted pretty well for  4 stores and then we had to adjourn to a cafe for a fluffy..
Op Shop Daddy  found and bought this painting..  Very kitsch but we all love it!

If you don't notice the dreadful peeling off wallpaper (courtesy of one of the kids)
it looks pretty good in that spot I recon!
(We'll put some  more WALLPAPER up there one day when the kids are all past the
danger zone for committing such decor atrocities!!)

My new knitting basket. I love plastic wicker work.

Very funky kitsch place mats that are in this original box. This was  $1 which was a bargain!!

I think I need to find a place on a wall somewhere for these. Love them.

Shoes for Iris.. not very vintage, but so cute!

Must do some collection selection posts soon!

I hope you're all having a happy Autumn/ Spring, depending on which hemisphere you are in!

Five Friday Faves (or maybe Saturday!)

1. FEIJOAS! One of the best things about this time of year.

2. THIS BEACH!! And a lovely Autumn break there..
(Can you see Cuvier Island in the background? - looks like a giant whale - love it!)

...and having the beach all to ourselves. I could watch the kids play all day..

3. And speaking of beaches..I stumbled across this amazing blog the other day.. The author collects,  arranges, photographs and makes funky art with non-natural stuff  (ie rubbish) she collects at her local beach.. SO COOL! I remember doing the collecting part when I was younger and the arranging (usually lining it up in rainbow formation), but sadly I never made it to the creating stage!. Also I don't believe there was as much litter.. obviously a lot more to be found these days sadly. Her blogs are fantastic though - check them out. Very inspiring!

4. This WALL of Succulents. On their own I'm not a massive fan - but wowsers!! I'm rocking this idea! It's an actual wall, not a bird's eye view.

5. Romance and fairy-tales? And an event .

And any excuse for a party.

And the only way I got the boys interested was to give them 'fish suppers' (a nod to my London heritage)  which was a great excitement - fish and chips in separate packets, and a can of lemonade from their Nana!! Wow they thought they were in heaven!  They love having dinner off of the tea trays for a treat but this was double, triple happy! I'm sure  Ben10 or something would have been more their viewing choice though!

Iris was there, just in case she ever gets interested in girly girl things in the future, like princesses and weddings. Asleep on my knee - it was hard to get that shot!

vintage queenie..
