Last Saturday there was a garage sale 4 houses down from us..
It didn't say in the listing,
but I knew it was a 'deceased estate'.
I struggle with that term. But it's used a lot over here.

| I got lots of amazing things. But I also got a lot to think about. I've been thinking about STUFF. Treasure. (we accumulate it, and then we die, right? But our stuff is 'us' isn't it?) I felt like I knew this woman. (I didn't even ever see her.. regrettably) I heard a lot about her, from her lovely daughter and 2 adult granddaughters. She brought up 8 kids mostly on her own after her husband died too soon. She worked two jobs to make ends meet. She sounded like an amazing woman. The type they don't make them like anymore.. I'm stoked to have some of the things she called treasure, and some of her useful stuff.. |

| Gloves, mostly made in West Germany. Her family were so amazed that anyone wanted all that old stuff! Want it?! Yes!!! And love it! |

| I LOVE this ballroom powder, unopened, from a shelf in her garage. I have never seen such a thing before. It cost 38c at 4 Square, when she bought it. |

Awesome stuff!! My mum had one of those curler holder baskets with the flower on top. First to a garage sale and the sun was out, now that is relaxed garage saleing!!
"Ballroom powder ... just sprinkle and twinkle ... turn any room into an instant dance party"! How do you like my ad? I'm gobsmacked at the pic of sweet Iris in front of all that precious loot so beautifully and neatly folded, arranged and organised. If I went, I'm afraid everything would have been flung from here to there in excitement!! I love everything!! Haven't seen a curler basket in decades. xoxox
It is good that you are giving a home to her 'things'. The gloves are gorgeous. :)
O, I know what you're saying...I stress about it regularly.......
But what GOODIES!!! It is so lovely that the lady's treasure is now your treasure...and hopefully what we see as treasure will mean something to someone else, when the time comes.

can't wait to see what else you got! a little after we moved into our house we found a sign in the bushes for an estate sale here! the woman who owned it before us lived here since 1939, i would have LOVED to see what they were selling!
I'm struggling with the "stuff" dilemma at the moment too....also after going to a deceased estate sale?!. I can only hope that someone vintage loving shows up at the sale my kids will have and be as happy as you where finding all those treasures !. Hope you wore those gloves out along with the shoes!....you are queen after all! Xx
How odd that I've been thinking about the same thing this week. I have been wondering what will happen to all my junk when I'm gone....especially when we don't have any kids to leave it to. I wonder who will appreciate it by then? Will it all get thrown out at the tip or will it get passed onto someone else to appreciate.
I love the graphics of that bird book....so pretty. I can't wait to see your loot. Loving the granny shoes too. I'm so glad some of your neighbours things will live on through you. Xx
Well, we can only hope that our stuff, our treasure, will find its next custodian, which may or may not be our kids, but someone will hopefully appreciate it all as much as we do.
Gorgeous finds - can't resist vintage gloves (if I can squeeze my navvy's hands into them) and canisters. Ballroom powder? Deluxe? I need some of that! Is it to add a bit of friction to stop the dance floor being too slippy? Or is it just to add sparkle? Who cares, it's brilliant! xxx

Wow, this was quite a sale. I know what you mean about the sadness associated with a sale like this. I think that buying wonderful treasure like the shoes and the gloves makes the lady live on, in a way, I don't mean that in a creepy way. Is ballroom powder for making the floor all slippery so you can dance and shimmy? Thos shoes are fabulous, how lucky they are in your size.
